The blue responses are our direct translation of Shohei's answers and the

Analyst Notes

are our commentary on the interpretation of Shohei's responses. Finally, we finish with a grade of the interpreter.

[Interpreter Grade]: ? See Below

Kirsten: Shohei, just the home run against Martinez, power against power. What were you seeing from him that allowed you to get that swing?

Will: ま、対マルティネま、早い球を投げるマルティネスですけども、まホーム打っていたんですけど、まどうやって打っていたんですか?

[Translation]: Against Martinez, the Martinez who throws really fast, You hit a homerun, how did you hit it?

Shohei: ビハインドだったのでランナ一塁もいましたし何とか後ろの2人にしっかりつなげればいいかなと思っていた。またまたま甘い球が来て長打にできて良かったと思います。

[Translation]: We were behind and there was a runner on first and there were two guys behind me so I really wanted to connect. A sweet ball came and I was happy to get an extra base hit.

Will: Just, you know, situationally runner on first base. We needed to get the run with two guys behind me. I just wanted to keep the baton going, just so happened to hit off a pitch that went far.

Analyst Note: I like the way Japanese ball players say seeing a sweet ball when they see a pitch to hit that never gets translated that way. Good job by Will to recognize Shohei mentioning the two runners behind him.

Kirsten: You kind of took a step back, admired it. The reaction from Joe Davis never was that it was a beautiful homerun. Did it feel like that for you as well?

Will: ま、結構眺めてたんだと思いますけど、ホームランを打ったあとですけども解説者のジョーデイビスさんが、ま、素晴らしいホームランだなとおしゃっていましたが。あの眺めてたんですかね。

[Translation]: Well, you stared at it a bit. After you hit it the commentator Joe Davis said it was a great homerun. I guess you stared at it?

Shohei: シチュエーションシチュエーションでしたし、大きく試合が動くところではあったので。いい感覚だったのと思います。

[Translation]: The situation was the situation, it was a big spot that could move the game. I had a good feel I think.

Will: It felt really great. In a big situation.

Analyst Note: Huge weakness on Will’s part. He simply cannot relate to Shohei’s power or performance and lacks in the important moments.

Reporter #2: You guys have done a lot of these comebacks in the 9th and 8th inning of the last month or so. What do you think is going to allow you guys to appeal to rally back? And I know obviously not as many runs as it would have taken to get to Colorado, but a lot of you guys....

Will: ま、今日は逆転2ランで勝ちましたけども最近チームがこういう状況で勝ち越しできるっていうのが多くなってると思うんですけども何か要因はあるんですかね?

[Translation]: Well, you came from two runs behind to win. Recently the team has been able to win those games I think do you know the most important point for this?

Shohei: どうなんですかね?ま、チームの状態自体、雰囲気自体はすごくいいと思いますし、今日もなかなか行ったり来たり難しいゲームだったと思いますけど最後もああやって自力で逆転をできているんのでそこら辺はやっぱりチーム力は高いな、チームの集中力が高いなと感じています。

[Translation]: I don’t know for sure. The team’s form itself and atmosphere is really good. It was a back and forth game and in the end on our own strength to win the game from behind that part is definitely the team strength, the team’s focus is very high right now.

Will: I mean the team is playing really well. A good atmosphere, you know, today's game really going back and forth. All day long, so it was a situation where the a good team will be able to pull through and glad that we were as a team able to take this one.

Analyst Note: Decent answer, forgot to mention teams focus and strength. 自力 or independent strength is difficult to translate and is unusual expression in Japanese I think.

Reporter #3: There were a lot of guys who came here in the offseason, including Teoscar Hernandez, who was brought to the mix for the team this year?

Will: 今日いろんな補強ま、テオスカ含めてあのドジャスに来たいもあったと思うんですけどへルナンデスの活躍とか見てどう思いますか?

[Translation]: Today, lots of reinforcements, Teoscar included, guys who wanted to come to the Dodgers I think, Hernandez’ performance how do you see it?

Shohei: ええ、ま、前半戦ももちろん今日の打席もそうですけど、あの素晴らしい打席が多いと思うので勝負強いですし興味深いのはぜひやっぱりこう前半戦みんながこう

作っているのをしっかりと決めている印象かなと思うのでので素晴らしい打撃だと思います。

[Translation]: Yeah, in the first half and definitely today’s at bats included he has a lot of great at bats I think and he is very competitive and the interesting part is the rhythm and flow we have created from the first half he firmly produces is the impressions I get so it was a great hit.

Will: Just looking back at his first half, he's putting a lot of quality at bats. And he's been, you know, putting out a lot of situations when there’s runners on base and it really shows his ability to be able to drive in runs.

Deputy Dorado: Last one guys.

Reporter #4: Shohei, your homeruns seem to get a lot of positive reactions from the fans, have you given any consideration to the homerun derby?

Will: ま、ホームランを打つたびにファンのリアクションが素晴らしいんですけどもホームランダービーに関してまた改めて考え直しましたか?

[Translation]: Each time you hit a homerun, the fans’ reactions are great, have rethought participating in the home run derby?

Shohei: うん まあの話が来ていろいろ話して途中だったんですけどまあのリハビリもあるのでなかなかボリュームも多いですし、今回はおそらく出ない方向で進むんじゃないかなと思います。

[Translation]: Yes, the offer has come and the conversations are kind of in the middle but I am still rehabbing and the volume of work is high so I think this time I probably am heading in the direction of not participating.

Will: There's been some conversations going on. I'm in the middle of my rehab progression so it's not gonna look like I'll not be participating.

Deputy Dorado: Thanks Will.

Interpreter Grade: D, Will simply cannot convey the strength and power of Shohei. Typical underwhelming and embarrassing performance.
